Is public WiFi secure?

Internet access if generally not an issue when you are inside your own home. It’s usually secure, fast and reliable (unless your housemates are streaming Netflix, on 4 separate devices of course). At work, it is usually a similar story. You get reliable, fast internet that has been set up by professionals.

The situation is different when you need to connect to a public WiFi system. You sometimes find that the mobile networks are just not cutting it, so you are left with a WiFi system you know nothing about. In most places like restaurants, motels and small venues, WiFi connectivity is unsecured and unencrypted. Essentially, this means that anyone else connected to the same WiFi network is able to easily capture your internet activity.

If you have no choice but to connect to an unsecured WiFi network, we strongly recommend using a VPN service which encrypts your communication. When using a VPN, your data is encrypted before being sent to the internet. Anyone trying to intercept it, would not be able to do that.

When connecting to Happy Network WiFi at your next event, you can rest assured that we completely isolate each and every device connected to the network, so there is absolutely no way to for an intruder to intercept any communication.
